Healing Architecture Concept

As the approach of Healing Architecture shows, fabrics and textiles are an important part of healing spaces. For this reason KOS KREBS has developed the mediKOS collection specifically for the healthcare sector.

This process was also accompanied by Prof. Dr. Axel Buether, whose research findings highlight colors as one of the key aspects in Healing Architecture, as they significantly promote well-being and thus health.

The basic concept of the mediKOS collection is based on nine harmonious color themes that focus on warm, homely colours. These themes are reflected in the sixteen designs of the collection, which can be combined with each other. Thus, with mediKOS, color guidance systems can also be established for different stations or sections.

In addition, the consistent colour concepts provide information and orientation aids for people with visual impairments or dementia.

Colours also influence moods and emotions, which can affect the well-being of patients and staff. In Healing Architecture, therefore, particular attention is often paid to a targeted selection of colours to create a pleasant and calming atmosphere. We have incorporated this approach into our designs.

All mediKOS textiles have been specially developed for the healthcare industry: they are highly durable, easy to clean hygienically, and retain their colour fastness. Upon request, we can equip almost all textiles with an antibacterial coating.

KOS KREBS covers the entire textile value chain in-house.

KOS KREBS offers its own product development, textile printing, and storage capacity for several hundred thousand meters of fabric

When rooms have a healing effect

The relatively new term "Healing Architecture" refers to the concept of the "Healing Environment", which deals with the influence of the environment on the healing and recovery process of patients.

In various studies it has been found that the environment has a significant impact on the well-being and stress levels of patients - and employees. Good orientation, pleasant lighting, good ventilation, appealing colours, and a muted noise level contribute to patients recovering faster, requiring less pain medication, and being discharged sooner.

In addition to these aspects, fabrics and textiles with antimicrobial treatment can also contribute to improving hygiene in hospitals and care facilities.

By integrating Healing Architecture into the design and planning of healing spaces, architects and designers can make a sustainable contribution to the emotional, psychological, and physical health of patients and staff.

Following this holistic approach, we have developed mediKOS in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Axel Buether from the University of Wuppertal - fabric and design concepts that have a positive impact on patient health, the healing process, as well as employee satisfaction and resilience.

then this has an impact on:

Patients

... feel more comfortable, recover faster, and require less pain medication.

Fears and stress

... are reduced by colors, lighting, and orientation concepts.

The employees

... are less sick, more motivated, and feel more comfortable at their workplace.
